Take any road in Zimbabwe,
look up, and you’ll see a lovely hilltop, beautiful flora, rivers: a village or
a small town, big cities and concealed little out of town centres, a few newer
buildings mixed with the old, big imposing houses, some not at all in keeping
with the surroundings. But even amid this juxtaposition there is something
exceptional about Zimbabwe and its landscape.
You travel to the
province of Masvingo and there lies the ruins of the Great Zimbabwe Empire. The
imposing Kingdom that showcase the power of Zimbabwe. Great Zimbabwe clings to
a denuded peak in the extreme south of the capital Harare. Tourists and
visiting locals are often shocked by the crispness of this Great ancient city.
It’s a meticulously layered settlement of dwellings build with local stone. There
is something inherently inviting about this Great fortress, which towers above
fertile plains.
From Nyanga to
Kariba, Victoria Falls to Matopos, Khami to Great Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe
landscape is awesome. An amazing country.
